Professional Development

A major emphasis of Project TITUS is the professional development of UIC faculty, CPS mentor teachers and preservice education majors. To this end, we offer a number of educational experiences in which all three groups are invited to participate on an ongoing basis. To learn more about our professional development model please click here “Lessons Learned.” To access information concerning many of the professional development activities that we have sponsored in the past and which we will sponsor over the 2003-2004 academic year, use the links at the top of this page. One Hour Seminars Over the course of the academic year, a series of one hour workshops are offered to UIC teacher preparation faculty and students. These workshops are developed from the requests of faculty, and designed to meet current educational needs. In 2004-2005, we will offer a total of 6 workshops. The content of these workshops will focus on the use of Task Stream, Webpage development and integrating Black Board as a course management tool. Dates for these workshop will be posted to this website as they are scheduled. Fall and Spring Workshops Each semester, with the assistance of the Department of Instructional Technology within CPS, we sponsor two half day Saturday Professional Development Conferences at Medill Professional Development Academy. These conferences attempt to stimulate new ways of thinking through a plenary speech, and are organized around a theme to develop new skills in a particular area. In the past, these conferences have dealt with Literacy in a Computer Era, Multimedia in the Classroom and Infusing the Internet into Teaching. Summer Institute The Project TITUS Summer Institute is a week long summer technology camp for UIC faculty and students and CPS mentor teachers. This conference offers multiple workshops across various levels of skill. Moreover, the culminating experience of the Institute is the development of technology infused lesson for the classroom. When students are engaged in creating their own websites, they reap the cognitive benefits associated with multimedia design. There are a variety of free, website creation tools that teachers can use to help students create subject-centered websites. Yet, it can often be overused, or used in ways that limits the participation of learners.
